In 2015, my then-fiance (now wife) and I decided to pay off all of our student loans, which totaled over 275k. At the time, I was working in the rock climbing industry and took on multiple extra jobs to make ends meet. I did lots of tasks on Taskrabbit and soon realized that I enjoyed fixing things and that there was a demand for good handymen in my area. Six years later, having paid off our 275k debt, my sideline grew to such an extent that I could take it on full time!
I had very little experience at the start but learned a great deal through self-study (or “YouTube University,” as I like to call it).
Currently, I have four young kids, so most of my time is spent entertaining and playing with them. I spent about 15 years in the rock climbing industry as a professional and enthusiast, traveling across the country and climbing outdoors with friends.
